Influential APC chieftain and the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, might be the first senator ever recalled in Nigeria’s history with the latest documents released on his sack.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has taken to its official Twitter page and released a timetable and guidelines for recalling Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi state from the Nigerian Senate.
Recall that the nation’s election umpire had last month wrote to the senator, notifying him that it has received a petition from his constituents numbering over 188,000 eligible voters in Kogi West senatorial distric for his recall from the senate.
“The Commission has formally acknowledged the receipt of the petition to the petitioners’ representatives and has conveyed a letter notifying Senator Melaye of our receipt of the petition,” Mallam Haruna, an INEC National Commissioner had said in the statement.
In its statement, INEC had said it would publish, on July 3, details of verification process of all the signatories to the petition to confirm if they are indeed eligible voters in Dino Melaye’s constituency.
Should Dino Melaye’s recall finally succeed, he would be the first senator ever recalled in Nigeria’s history.
Below is the full timetime for his recall released by INEC on Monday, 3rd July 2017.
