Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has canvassed the need for a law aimed at curtailing the menace posed by itinerant Islamic adolescent scholars popularly referred to as ‘Almajirais’.

Speaking after conducting journalists round the state to inspect developmental projects in Kano State, he said it behoves on neighbouring state Governors of the North to enact a common law to curtail the indiscriminate movement of the Almajirais.

The governor also disclosed that the state government has invested over N1 billion on the training and re-training of teachers of both primary and secondary schools in the state and promotion of 10,000 others who had been stagnated for the last 10 years.

According to him: “We have so many measures we have taken in education. On the promotion of teachers, we are very serious because for more than 10 years there was no promotion for teachers in the state but recently we promoted thousands of teachers and that is our great motivation for them and we constructed additional classrooms, teaching materials and training of teachers but as I told you that this is a very wide area that when the economy is bad, the first thing that will suffer is education but with the community participation we are moving ahead.”
