As everyone know, Barcelona have a unique style of play, hence any man coming-in must be someone who likes his team playing that way.
With this in mind, here are six possible candidates to replace the treble winning coach;
1. Ronald Koeman
The odds-on favorite and a Barcelona legend who albeit having moved away from the possession based philosophy is one who could usher in a new era at the club.
Koeman was a legend from his playing days at Barcelona
He once denied having intentions to move to Barcelona at the end of the season and is enjoying a good time at Everton, but anything could happen.
2. Ernesto Valverde
This 53-year-old manager spent two years with Barcelona as a player and won three Greek league titles as manager of Olympiakos.
He led his side to victory over Barcelona in Spanish Super Cup earlier in the season and is admired at Camp Nou for his style of play a Atletico Bilbao.
Valverde is one the coaches being considered by Barcelona
He has already admitted that a move would interest him, but his trophy cabinet might work against him.
3. Jorge Sampaoli
Possibly the best coach in La Liga right now alongside Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid. A self-confessed disciple of Marcelo Bielsa, who was a major influence on Pep Guardiola and the way he wants his team to play.
Sampaoli has led Sevilla to third place on the La Liga table
What is most intriguing is that Sampaoli’s assistant at Sevilla, Juanma Lillo, is the greatest influence on Guardiola as a coach. Having just arrived in Spain at the beginning of the season, it might be too early to see him leave.
He is not only Argentinian, but from Rosario which may endear him to Lionel Messi.
4. Laurent Blanc
This is one manager who favours possession-football like he did at France, Bordeux and PSG. Showed he can win trophies like he did at PSG (won the domestic treble twice in three years).
He was however not able to progress past the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League during his spell there. He is a free agent., so Barcelona would not have to pay a compensation fee.
He is also a calming presence and a legend of the game from his time as a World Cup winning player.
Blanc managed a lot of big ego’s in the PSG dressing room well. he also played for Barcelona
He also played at Barcelona for one season alongside Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique.
5. Juan Carlos Unzue
Luis Enrique’s assistant at Barcelona could be seen as a continuity option. Spent two years at Barcelona as a player and seven at Sevilla appearing in more than 300 games. Could be a continuity option for Barcelona if they want to look inward.
Luis Enrique and his trusted assistant at Barcelona and Celta Vigo Unzue
6. Mauricio Pochettino
Knows the city of Barcelona very well having played for and managed Espanyol.
Mauricio Pochettino is another student of Marcelo Bielsa, a man regarded as the best in the business by Pep Guardiola
Two things come to mind when you think of Pochettino and Barcelona; instilling a pressing style at Barcelona that would match the club’s way and promoting young players like Harry Kane, Harry Winks.
